Stop Mirror Distress After Mastectomy Surgery

A short online course helping women to stop avoiding mirrors and reflections so they can feel less self-conscious, more connected to their body, and more at ease in their skin once again.

A MIRROR SPIRAL RESET

A short, practical course for women after mastectomy who feel overwhelmed when they look in the mirror.

Learn how to interrupt the spiral of painful thoughts, understand what’s happening in your brain, and regain control of your reaction with a simple tool you can use anytime.

If you’ve ever stood in front of the mirror and felt your stomach drop…

If your reflection fills you with sadness, anger, or self-criticism…

You are not alone.

And more importantly, there is a way to change what happens next.

In this gentle, practical mini course, clinical psychologist and mastectomy previvor Natasha Jivan shares the framework she developed to help interrupt the “mirror spiral” and create more peace when you see your body.

This isn’t about pretending everything is fine.

It’s about understanding what’s happening in your mind, learning how to interrupt the spiral, and giving yourself the skills to move forward.

A calmer relationship with your reflection is possible.

When Looking in the Mirror Feels Hard

If you’ve had a mastectomy, the moment you look in the mirror can feel incredibly confronting. You might stare at your reflection and feel a wave of sadness, shock, or even disgust.

You might think:

“I hate what I see.”

“How am I supposed to live with this body?”

“I should be grateful I’m alive… so why do I feel like this?”

You may feel devastated by how much your body has changed.

Some days you might avoid mirrors completely.

You might avoid getting changed in front of your partner.

You might avoid intimacy.

Maybe you’ve stopped doing things you once loved, like swimming, going to the beach, or wearing certain clothes.

You might feel like everyone is staring at your chest.

Like your body looks strange or different.

And underneath it all is the painful feeling that you just want to hide away.

Many women experience this mirror spiral.

The moment you see your reflection…your thoughts rush in, your emotions follow.

And suddenly you’re caught in a reaction that feels overwhelming.

But here’s something important to know. You are not doing anything wrong.

Your brain is responding exactly the way it is designed to respond after trauma and threat.

And once you understand that, something powerful becomes possible.

You can learn how to interrupt the spiral.

What Becomes Possible........

Imagine standing in front of the mirror and noticing something different. The familiar reaction begins… but this time it doesn’t take over. Woohoo! What a feeling.

Instead of being swept away by painful thoughts, you pause.

You recognise what’s happening. You understand why your brain is reacting this way. And you know exactly what to do next.

Inside this course you’ll learn the CALM Model. Designed by Natasha as a practical process designed to interrupt the mirror spiral and help you regain control of your reaction.

You’ll begin to see that your response to your changed body is not a personal failure. It’s your brain trying to protect you. When you understand this, something shifts.

You can create distance from the spiral instead of getting trapped inside it.

You can catch the reaction as it starts. You can use a clear, practical tool to change what happens next.

Some days will still be hard, that’s normal.

But instead of feeling overwhelmed or stuck, you’ll have skills, understanding, and a clear plan.

You’ll know how to manage those moments. Over time, something begins to soften.

You may feel more grounded. More peaceful. More able to move forward with your life. You may begin doing things again that once felt impossible.

Going to the beach. Getting changed without panic.

Allowing others to see your body without feeling trapped in shame.

Your reactions are no longer driving the bus.

You are.

Real Women. Real Change.

Hi, I’m Natasha.

I created this course because I’ve walked this path myself. I know how confronting it can be to look in the mirror after mastectomy.

This isn’t something I learned only through professional training. It’s something I live with too.

Alongside my personal experience, I’ve spent over 20 years working in mental health as both a nurse and psychologist, much of that time supporting people through trauma and body image concerns.

I’m also a mindfulness teacher, and I’ve spent decades helping people understand how their minds work and how to respond differently to difficult thoughts and emotions.

Over time I noticed a clear pattern in what happens when we see our bodies after a traumatic change.

There is a predictable chain reaction in the brain.

Once you understand that chain, you can learn how to interrupt it.

That’s why I developed the CALM Model.

This course brings together lived experience, psychology, and practical tools to help you respond differently in those difficult moments.
